Upcoming: MWNO Review Series. New Historical Books from Eastern Europe, the Baltics, the Caucasus, and Central Asia
Languages, academic cultures, book markets – these are crucial elements for research and the publication of its findings. At the same time, they can hamper transnational academic exchange. To enable crucial synergies and exchange, the Max Weber Network Eastern Europe (MWNO) launches a new international review journal in 2026: the MWNO Review Series. New Historical Books from Eastern Europe, the Baltics, the Caucasus and Central Asia. It will be open access, published in English and focus on publications in the humanities which have been published in the local languages of ‘Eastern Europe’, the South Caucasus, the Baltic states (incl. Finland) and Central Asia. The journal’s mission is to further the integration of publications in the humanities that have been published in the local languages in the transnational conversation on shared concerns in historiography through English language reviews.
To this end, experts from the region will select relevant books for review. The selection of titles will put an emphasis on local histories as well as on Eastern European and trans-European history in their global contexts. To provide a better insight into local discussions, the initial issues will feature one or two review articles dealing with publications that featured in discussions in the respective countries during the last ten years.
